An Audit of Skills 1.1

  Core Skills in Performing Arts:

My core skill is acting, I have a grade 4 in GCSE Drama and during this time I portrayed a variety of different characters whether through reading off scripts or creating devising pieces which significantly helped with my ability of characterization and confidence. For my final exam I read a monologue and duologue from the play 'I Think We Are Alone', for my monologue I read as the character Ange and for my duologue Manny (March 2023). In doing this, I focused on self discipline to assure I learnt my lines and made sure to communicate with my costar to determine our interpretations of the script and our methods to portray them in our performance. In Addition to this, I multi-roled as Greed and Pride in my devising groups adaptation of the seven deadly sins (2022). By working in a group and being able to be in full control of what we create I naturally took the leadership role seeing as that's my comfort zone in these kind of activities. This also meant I used my skills of being a good team player and made sure to listen and expand on the ideas the people in my group voiced. I also found in the creation process I was more confident in my points and didn't doubt my capability which at the time showed large progress.

Furthermore, in high school I became a Drama ambassador which meant I was able to partake in acting pieces to build awareness and voice my ideas to the people of power on what we should be studying in the drama curriculum. This meant that in the acting pieces and outside I was able communicate issues and problem solve through creativity yet staying respectful. As well as this, I starred in the ensemble in my high schools adaptation of 'The Addams Family Musical' (2022). This once again was a successful attempt to build my confidence when performing in front of an audience in addition to gaining new skills such as singing and dancing.

Adaptable and Transferrable skills

Team Player/leader

In Highschool especially, we were encouraged in drama to create pieces in groups. This gradually built up my confidence to take leadership in these sorts of situations as I believe I make sure everyone's points and opinions are voiced to assure that everyone's happy with the final outcome. I have carried this adaptable skill to college and now find it effortless if no one else volunteers to happily lead the group. Thankfully, I would say I'm quite approachable which means that its not scary for shy people to speak up which I'm very proud about.

Empathetic

In the past I have done volunteer work for elderly peoples homes which has naturally developed my ease to be empathetic to people. I find it easy to tell when people appear to be having a hard time and am always happy to talk to anyone who needs it. This adaptable skill is one of the most significant in my opinion and I think making sure people are the best they can be mentally and physically is the most important factor when taking on a role. In addition this skill will help me if I ever need to relate to a character or method act.

Independence

During my GCSES, for one of my drama performances I took on a role from a monologue. This meant I carried the entirety of the performance just by myself which was quite daunting at the time. Due to this, I made sure to take full responsibility and use time management to plan out when I was to rehearse my lines and block my performance. By not being joined on the stage with anyone, I believe this greatly impacted my ability to be independent and test if I can handle all the pressure by myself.

Time Management

When it came to revising for my GCSEs, the multitude of content I had to learn became very overwhelming which meant that I started to manage my time using time tables to be able to cover every subject without feeling stressed. This skill has positively impacted my approaches to learning and studying due to its ability to effortlessly help me calm down. Another way I use time management effectively is when I have to learn lines for performances. Seeing as learning lines is a gradual process I made sure to leave time for myself in between rehearsal to avoid burning out and overstimulating my brain with information which I can now apply to new experiences.

Confidence

Whilst in education throughout high school I joined a variety of different acting based clubs in order to gradually build my confidence and find methods to avoid nerves before performing in front of a crowd. I decided to become an acting ambassador and display to people with anxiety that you’re able to per-sue the things you love without letting mental health hold you back. In doing this, I was able to slightly overcome my fear of acting in front of large audiences and become more confident in myself and believe that I can do anything. This has made me a better version of myself and brought me a more optimistic approach especially towards acting.

Ambition

Ever since my childhood I've dreamt of the idea that one day I will be able to be an actress. This passions has ensured that will be reliable to put my everything into a performance and emphasizes my commitment to my craft. I want to inspire people and be inspired by the range of talent found in the industry and this ensures that my determination will never die down.
